Data Compass RAID Recovery Utility
01/04/2009
Computer Science Labs will shortly be offering a new and eagerly awaited RAID recovery application developed by our partners Salvation Data.
The complexity and widely differing configurations of RAID systems make recovering data from them especially challenging, whilst the often vital and valuable nature of the data stored adds a considerable imperative to such recoveries.
The RAID Recovery Utility is being introduced to complement the highly successful Data Compass and is designed to ease and accelerate the recovery process. It works to extract data from the multiple drives that make up a RAID system, and to rebuild this data across the RAID array, independently of any controller card or software.
The essence of the RAID recovery procedure is to ‘crack’ the algorithm employed by the multiplicity of RAID cards, to directly analyse the data interspersed among multiple ‘member’ drives and reconstruct it in a correct form to new storage media.
The features of the RAID Recovery
Utility include:
• Automatic and manual analysis modes
• Supports RAID 0, 5, 5E and 5EE
• Support for missing member drives
• Detection of array order, stripe size and start point
• Detection of parity type and rotation
These functions, many of which are not supported by the leading utilities currently available, all serve to substantially increase and accelerate users RAID recovery capabilities.
From 2nd April 09 the RAID utility will be offered with Data Compass to form the new Data Compass Premium (the standard version without the RAID utility will still be available).
