| Advanced HDD Mechanical Repair and Recovery Training Course |
3 Days
Code: CSL2002
Duration: 3 Days
Pre-requisites: Basic HDD Mechanical Repair and Recovery (CSL1002)
The training is intended for those with a basic knowledge of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) data recovery technology and principles. Where clients need a refresher or need to be introduced to the latest mechanical techniques and solutions, the Advanced HDD Mechanical Repair and Recovery Training Course offers an excellent solution. Previous experience of recovering data through mechanical replacements would be advantageous, but is not essential. Thus the training would make an ideal progression for those wishing to extend their working into an area that many find daunting.
Learning Objectives:
(i) To provide a critical understanding of mechanical and physical HDD failures, their symptoms and diagnosis;
(ii) To develop a set of comprehensive solutions to HDD failures based on diagnostic results;
(iii) To focus on the Read Write Head and Platter replacement procedures on a variety of high capacity HDDs;
(iv) To introduce the latest technology and skills regarding HDD physical replacement operations;
Course Content:
Day 1
- Introduction to generic mechanical diagnostic and recovery procedures and tools. Detailed diagnosis of head and seized spindle faults will be addressed. Faults common to specific drives will also be discussed.
- Spares compatibility of Read Write Heads for specific manufacturers. The possibility of using imperfectly matched heads will be also discussed.
- A variety of solutions to seized spindle motor faults. Compatibility of donor HDDs will also be addressed.
- Demonstration of conventional laptop drives (e.g. Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu) physical (head and platter) replacements.
- Practical consolidation exercises of physical replacements on selected laptop drives.
Day 2
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on Samsung desktop drives (with and without acoustic spacers).
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on Seagate desktop drives (with and without acoustic spacers) with capacities from 80GB to 500GB.
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on Maxtor desktop drives (with and without acoustic spacers) with multiple heads.
Day 3
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on Western Digital desktop drives sized up to 500GB.
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on large capacity Hitachi/IBM desktop drives.
- Introduction to the latest imaging/cloning technology, including the manipulation of the physical parameters and settings of Read Write Heads.
