Pre-requisites: Entry level – No previous repair or data recovery experience necessary
This training is intended for those with a basic knowledge of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) technology and principles. Where clients need to be introduced to the latest HDD Mechanical data recovery techniques and solutions, the Basic HDD Mechanical Repair and Recovery Training Course would offer an excellent solution.
Learning Objectives:
(i) To provide a critical understanding of mechanical and physical HDD failures, their symptoms and diagnosis;
(ii) To develop a set of comprehensive solutions to HDD failures based on diagnostic results;
(iii) To focus on the Read Write Head and Platter replacement procedures on a variety of HDDs;
(iv) To introduce the latest technology and skills regarding HDD physical replacement operations;
Course Outline:
Day 1
- Introduction to physical structure of HDDs and requirements for Clean Room facilities, including the importance of anti-static tools and equipment.
- Introduction to generic mechanical diagnostic and recovery procedures and tools. Detailed diagnosis of Read/Write Head and Seized Spindle faults will be addressed;
- Spares compatibility criteria for physical replacements with reference to specific manufacturers;
- Demonstration of physical (head and platter) replacements on single platter (with 1 or 2 heads) laptop drives;
Day 2
- Demonstration of physical (head and platter) replacements on multiple platter (with 3 or 4 heads) laptop drives;
- Practical demonstrations and consolidation exercises of head and platter replacement on conventional Samsung desktop drives;
- Practical demonstrations and consolidation exercises of head and platter replacement on conventional Seagate desktop drives (with and without acoustic spacers);
Day 3
- Practical demonstrations and consolidation exercises of head and platter replacement on conventional Western Digital desktop drives;
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on conventional Maxtor desktop drives;
- Practical demonstrations and exercises of head and platter replacement on conventional Hitachi/IBM desktop drives.
